Simple Vanilla Macarons

Description: A simple egg white based cookie sandwich that melts in your mouth


Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups powdered sugar

1 cup almond flour

1 teaspoon salt (divided)

3 egg whites

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Directions:

  1. In a bowl combine and sift the powdered sugar, almond flour, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt

  2. In a stand mixer beat the egg whites and remaining salt until soft peaks form gradually add the white sugar and beat until stiff peaks form

  3. Add the vanilla to the egg mixture and food coloring if desired

  4. SLOWLY fold in the dry ingredients ( about 1/3 at a time)

  5. With a round piping tip pipe 1 inch rounds onto prepared baking sheets with parchment paper and tap the sheet on a flat surface around 5 times to remove any air bubbles

  6. Set aside for 30 minutes to one hour at room temperature

  7. Heat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the macarons for around 17 minutes or until feet form around the edges.

  8. Let the macaroons cool completely before filling with a simple vanilla buttercream, ganache, or whatever you desire. Enjoy!
